Whoa.....
The last few days have been pretty abysmal on the art front. So much so, that I'm reluctant to give any of these drawings their own post. I'll just bundle them together, with the hope that it will be easier to forget.

On the 6th (Sunday) I contracted either a flu bug, or food poisoning.......whatever it was I had one view throughout the day.

On the 7th (Monday) I thought it would be ok to go for a little bike ride.........and felt so depleted by Sunday's trials that I was wishing for this to pick me up.

Today I just gave up, and took a bath instead.

Inspired by yesterday's crosshatching experiment, I decided to try something similar with a more elaborate drawing........here are the results.

Started yith this pencil drawing of Greg Lemond winning the Tour De France on the Champ Elysees.

          Added horizontal and vertical lines, no crosshatching.......then I erased the drawing.

 Crosshatching to bring in the darks. Still  used only vertical and horizontal lines here.

 Finally included some diagonal lines, and hatching, to give form and shape.

 I added color at the end to see what it would look like.


I think with more planning, the color could really help to define the shape and structure of things, but as is......I just kinda threw it on without forethought.
I think this drawing could be pushed even further along with more structure lines, or maybe even redrawing the original pencil sketch...........hmmm.

Spent a few hours finishing up the last bits of the PBS mural today......
Pretty satisfied with the results. Here's some pics.

Another long day at PBS. Tightening up lines and getting the blacks sharp.
Here's some detail shots.

           Also extended the mountains on both sides to natural stopping points.

Just need to work more on the face, handlebars and shifters. I also need to decide if I want to extend the design down to show more of the rider and bike.........

Spent a long day at Upper Echelon Fitness working on a mural for Portland Bicycle Studio.
Here's a rundown on the process......

   This was the initial roughly sketched design idea we agreed on.....I just sharpied directly on the photo, to get a sense of how the mural would look in the space.

 After looking over the first mockup, we decided another rider was needed to give some context for that suffer-face. This is the finished drawing and final design.
Once that's done, I use the projector to blow the work up, and try to find the best looking angle for the painting on the wall .....then paint a rough approximation of the original.

 Then I go back through, darken up lines, cleanup negative spaces, and generally try to make the blacks as flat and graphic as possible. This part is the most time consuming and tedious........

                                       Still in the early stages, but it's getting there.

Finished up the final bits for Ira's NAHBS booth today.......the panels look good and the bikes look better.
Also got to see the illustrious Dan Sharp workin' his photo magic, recording the show bikes for posterity.
